Despite the increased efforts in initiatives for women’s advancement, progress remains fragile particularly in the leadership pipeline. It is important to note that deep, systemic change requires reshaping people’s mindsets and behaviors which is hard to achieve and does not follow a linear path. While women have made great strides in some areas, there is still much work to do to create a workplace experience that is inclusive and equitable for everyone.

In this masterclass, we’re bringing together prominent leaders from across the globe to share the strategies, challenges, and innovations driving the advancement of Black women’s leadership. This session also marks the launch of a new B-WEL masterclass series, grounded in the four dimensions of power that guide our work. We begin with the  Power to Do: the ability to leverage skills, knowledge, and leadership opportunities to drive meaningful professional and societal transformation.

Featuring powerhouse speakers:

  • Latanya Mapp (USA)

a global leader in philanthropy and gender justice, formerly CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, where she oversaw $500M+ in annual giving. Prior roles include leading the Global Fund for Women and Planned Parenthood Global, quadrupling their impact. With over two decades in human rights at UNICEF and USAID, she’s a decorated advocate, author, board member for FONDATION Chanel, Columbia University professor and Advisory Board member for B-WEL.

  • Marcia Ashong (Ghana)

has launched and scaled ventures that seek to catalyze Africa’s vast talent and capitalize on its vast resources including TheBoardroom Africa, the continent’s largest regional community for female executives, whose mission is to accelerate the appointment of women to boards. A noted energy expert, she has held senior roles in the energy industry for industry titans like Baker Hughes and consulted on energy policy among others. 

  • Jandaraci Araújo (Brazil)

a cross-sector leader bridging profit and purpose with expertise in ESG, diversity, and innovation. With experience in technology, retail, arts, and bioeconomy, she combines hands-on leadership and strategic insight to drive transformative change. A co-founder of Instituto Conselheira 101, an initiative empowering Black and Indigenous women for corporate leadership, she is also the author of five books and a recipient of awards such as Leaders of Brazil (2021) and IBEF-SP’s Executive of the Year (2022). Recognized as a LinkedIn Top Voice in Gender Equity & ESG, her mission is to inspire sustainable, inclusive business growth and social impact. 

Our speakers will explore how local realities shape leadership approaches and how cross-border solidarity is fueling bold, systemic change. Whether you’re building from the grassroots or leading in boardrooms, this session invites you to understand the systems we’re in and reshape them through action.
